Mrs. Zonie Lee Walden Vaughan, 94 of Waycross, passed away Sunday morning, November 28, 2021, at the Baptist Village Nursing Home.
Born in Pearson, GA on April 15, 1927, she had lived in Pierce County for many years prior to moving to Baptist Village four years ago. Mrs. Vaughan had been a homemaker for many years before becoming a nurse. She had worked for Dr. Bates, Dr. Floyd Davis, and in the home healthcare field where she would eventually retire. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, quilting, cooking, and taking care of people – which was her true calling. Mrs. Vaughan dearly loved her family as well as her church family – St. Johns United Methodist Church.
She was a daughter of the late Charlie J. Walden and Leola Jordan Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas “Tommy” Vaughan, Jr.; two daughters, Barbara Thrift and Vicky Vaughan; three grandchildren, Eric Vaughan, Tammy Ketchem, and Damon Moore; all three of her sisters, Latrell Starling, Lonie Jean Taylor, and Virginia Stewart; and her brother, Buddy Taylor.
Survivors include her sons, L. C. “Chuck” (Deb) Moore of Summerville, GA, Roger (Gayle) Moore of Jacksonville, FL, Alton (Luciell) Moore of Madison, GA, and Jimmy (Bernadette) Vaughan of Blackshear; her daughter, Kathy (John) Jeffers of Blackshear; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vaughan will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 12:00 o’clock from the St. Johns United Methodist Church.
Visitation for Mrs. Vaughan will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
