Mr. William Clinton Godwin, Sr., 92 of Blackshear, passed away Thursday evening, July 21, 2022, at his residence.
Born in Pierce County, GA on September 12, 1929, he had lived in Pierce County all his life. Mr. Godwin was retired from CSX Transportation where he had been a machinist. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was in the Men’s Fellowship class. He was ordained as a deacon while a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church many years ago. Mr. Godwin loved woodworking in his shop and building things for family members. He enjoyed rebuilding cars and taking his wife fishing at their river house.
He was a son of the late Berry & Eliza Yawn Godwin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louisa Williams Godwin; a daughter, JoAnn Godwin; an infant granddaughter; both of his sisters, Leona Beville and Gladys Strickland; and all four of his brothers, Claude Godwin, J.C. Godwin, Lee Godwin, and Clyde Godwin.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Godwin of Blackshear; his son, William “Bill” Clinton Godwin, Jr. (BaLinda Green) of Blackshear; his granddaughter, Brittany (Zach) Currie; four sisters-in-law, Velma Williams, Llene Deal, and Katherine Bohannon all of Blackshear, and Joyce Hyers of Brunswick; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Godwin will be held Sunday afternoon, July 24, 2022, at 3:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
