Mr. William Franklin Godwin, 83 of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday evening, September 1, 2020, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, GA.
William was born on May 11, 1937 in Pierce County, Georgia to the late Richard R. Godwin and Iva Lee King Godwin McAlpin. In the past, he attended the Blackshear Church of God with his Aunt Mattie. He was a phenomenal carpenter that helped build many homes and businesses in Pierce and surrounding counties. William loved to fish with his friend Wesley Yarbrough and his late brother Elmo. He knew where all the good fishing spots were and didn’t like to share them. He was a diehard Atlanta Braves fan and loved to watch John Wayne movies. His final wish was that he could live long enough to vote for Donald Trump again. William enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his special friends Mark and Janet Bowen.
In addition to his mother and father, he was also preceded in death by his daughter Deidre Brown, his brothers James Elmo Godwin and Robert Tracy Godwin, and his beloved Aunt, Mattie Peacock, who welcomed him with open arms to Heaven.
Survivors include his son, William Mark Godwin (Rachel) of Valdosta, Georgia; his daughter, Kady (Jesse) Mowbray of Gainesville, Georgia; nine grandchildren: Daniel, Cyan, Abigail, Damon, Connor, Calista, Sarah, Shelby, and Shaun; and several other relatives and friends.
