Mr. William Franklin “Frank” Aspinwall, 87, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday evening, December 26, 2023, at his residence.
Born in Bristol, GA on September 19, 1936, he lived in Pierce County all his life. Mr. Aspinwall’s first job was as a press operator for The Blackshear Times. He also served as the Justice of the Peace for Pierce County for many years before going into business for himself. Mr. Aspinwall was a true entrepreneur having owned and operated several businesses in our community such as the Grove Hill Restaurant, the Satilla Package Store, The Blackshear Bowl, Aspinwall Mobile Home Park, Aspinwall Bail Bonds, and The Oak Plaza Restaurant. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing but in his younger days had also enjoyed gardening. Mr. Aspinwall, even at 87, was always busy doing something. He was a member of the Blackshear First Baptist Church.
He was a son of the late Clyde Jacob Aspinwall and Alma Lee Aspinwall Sapp. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Adolph Sapp; two sons, Edward “Ed” Aspinwall and an infant son; a son-in-law, Kevin Carter; a grandson, Anthony Aspinwall; all three of his sisters, Mildred Aspinwall, Patricia Wilkes, and Bertie Anne McNair; and an infant brother, Omer W. Aspinwall.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Susie & Ronnie Dixon of Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Neil & Teresa Aspinwall of Lake Charles, LA and Drs. W. Franklin “Frankie” & Marilyn Aspinwall, Jr. of Kingsland; 9 grandchildren, J. R. (Leslie) Aspinwall, Frannie (Josh) Rector, Melissa (Michael) Montgomery, Ashlee (Bryan) Gonzales, Taylor (Danielle) Aspinwall, Brittany Aspinwall, Jake Aspinwall, Marshall Aspinwall, and Marcus (Sydney) Kuja; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great, great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Aspinwall will be held Friday afternoon, December 29, 2023, at 3:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday afternoon.
Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery.
