Mr. Wiley C. “Bo” Tanner, 82, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday afternoon, November 20, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Nichols, GA on May 26, 1941, Mr. Tanner lived in Jacksonville, Florida for many years prior to moving to Pierce County in 2002. He was a proud US Navy veteran having served on the USS Saratoga. Mr. Tanner retired after many years as a truck driver carrying fuel and milk. He was a true southern gentleman and man of integrity who loved unconditionally. He was soft-spoken, kind, and gentle. Mr. Tanner had the most giving heart to those he loved and was a father-figure to many, including strangers. Mr. Tanner was of the Christian faith.
He was a son of the late Earlie Tanner and Margaret Teston Tanner Sirmons. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Rosa Marie Hice Tanner.
Survivors include his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy & Warnie Nettles and Colleen & Eugene Corbitt all of Blackshear; his brother, DeWaine Tanner of Hortense; his step-daughter, Denise Attaway of Indian Land, SC; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Tanner will be held Saturday afternoon, November 25, 2023, at 2 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warnie Nettles officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Tanner, Josh Nettles, Jonathan Nettles, Daythan Cox, Sheldon Barber, Joshua Nettles, Simon Nettles, and Perry Attaway.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made to the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Mr. Tanner’s memory.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Satilla and the Hospice Satilla Hospice House for the love and compassion shown to Mr. Tanner and the family during his time in their care.
