Wendell Lowman Obituary

Mr. Wendell Lowman, 78, of Screven, passed away Saturday evening, June 6, 2026, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.

Born in Bristol, GA on July 28, 1947, he lived in Pierce County all his life.  Mr. Lowman was a US Army veteran having served during the Vietnam Theater.  He was a Master Electrician who worked as a supervisor for Shaw, Inc.. He was a workaholic who loved his job but still found time to help anyone he could. He enjoyed playing billiards, loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and was an excellent marksman an avid gun lover.   

He was a son of the late John D. & Ruby Irene Blalock Lowman.  He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ora Lee Todd Lowman; by his second wife, Crystal McCray Lowman; a daughter, Jade McCray; a son, Terry Sweat; a brother, Horace Lowman; and his pet dog, Crash.

Survivors include his children, Jasea McCray of Waycross, Herman Gary Sweat, Sr. of Patterson, Gary (Harlie) Sweat, Jr. of Mershon; and David Rhodes of Ohio; two brothers, Dewey (Linda) Lowman of Patterson and John W. Lowman (Kristy Altman) of Bristol; 13 grandchildren, Nikkie (Jason) Carter, Billy Sweat, John Crawford, Randy Crawford, Sally Smith, Jamie (Kristin) Sweat, Zach Sweat, Leigha Sweat, Christine Mendoza, Cassandra Bell, Dalton Sweat, Bryce Sweat, and Brianna Sweat; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will be receiving friends on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel from 5 until 7 pm.

Military honors conducted by the Fort Stewart Honor Guard will be conducted at 5:30 pm.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
