Mrs. Thelma Delane Strickland Kirkland, 92 of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday evening, November 16, 2021 at Harborview – Pierce County Nursing Home.
Born in Hickox, GA on October 5, 1929, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life. Mrs. Kirkland had worked for the former Woolco department store for many years prior to working for Wal-Mart as a cashier and eventually retiring as a greeter. She was an awesome cook and loved reading the newspaper. She was a member of the Blackshear Church of God and over the years she and her late husband, Nathaniel Preston Kirkland, Jr., had enjoyed singing together at church and other functions.
She was a daughter of the late Raymond & Polly Walker Strickland. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Head; and all four of her brothers, John, Floyd, I. J., and Billy Strickland.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Loretta & Roger Smith of Douglasville; her son and daughter-in-law, Foy & Lafain Kirkland of Blackshear; a sister, Jenetha (T.L.) Chaney of Blackshear; 3 grandchildren, Stephanie (Jerry) Evans, Holly (Gerry) Willits, and Brandy Wynn; 6 great grandchildren; 4 great, great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kirkland will be held Saturday afternoon, November 20, 2021, at 3:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.
The family will have a private visitation for immediate family only one hour prior to the service.
