Sheila Aline (Head) Lovett

Mrs. Sheila Aline Head Lovett, 81 of Blackshear, passed away Monday morning, March 7, 2022, at the Satilla Bluffs Care Center.

Born in Blackshear, GA on May 26, 1940, she had lived in Millen, GA for several years before moving back to Pierce County in 1999.  Mrs. Lovett was a 1958 graduate of Blackshear High School.  She started at Southern Bell Telephone Company in 1969 as a former switchboard operator while also being the owner/operator of the Sears Roebuck store in Millen for a few years. Mrs. Lovett went on to retire as the office administrator in 1994 from Bellsouth, formerly Southern Bell. She was a member of the Bellsouth Pioneers, the Blackshear Woman’s Club where she was also a past president, the Red Hat Society, and was a volunteer with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at the Pierce County Nursing Home.  Mrs. Lovett was a devoted member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday school class.  Over the years she had participated in numerous capacities in the church such as singing in the choir and helping with plays and vacation bible school. 

She was the daughter of the late Eddie Eugene “Gene” & Merle Altman Head.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawton Eugene “Junior” Head.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Ellis H. Lovett, Sr. of Blackshear; her daughter and son-in-law, Kay & Shayne Sapp of Millen; her son and daughter-in-law, Ellis H. & Michelle Lovett, Jr. of Loganville, GA; two brothers, Eddie “BoBo” (Geraldine) Head of Blackshear and Danny Head of Commerce; 4 grandchildren, Cassie Lovett-Davis, husband Matt, Cali Lee, husband Anthony “Tex”, Ryan Lovett, and Kayley Sapp; 3 great grandchildren, Hampton Schumacher, Eisley Lovett-Davis, and Hazel Lee; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Lovett will be held Thursday morning, March 10, 2022, at 11:00 o’clock from the Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Edmund Thrift officiating.

The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service for visitation.

Interment will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Allen, Rick Head, Duane Head, Timmy Head, Ryan Lovett, and Josh Thrift.

The family kindly requests employees of Bethany Hospice, Satilla Bluffs Senior Care, the Senior Adult Sunday school class of Shady Grove Baptist Church, as well as Daylon Head, Kevin Head, and Sam Head to serve as honorary pallbearers.  Please meet at the church by 10:30 Thursday morning.
