Mrs. Sarah Linda Strickland Dixon, 78, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Harborview Pierce County Nursing.
Born in Patterson, GA on April 26, 1946, she had lived in Pierce County all of her life. Although her “full-time” occupation was being a homemaker and mother, she still found time to volunteer for many years with the Red Cross at the many blood drives held in the community. Known as a great southern cook, she never missed an opportunity to bake cakes for others, especially the employees of Peoples Bank, with carrot cakes and Italian cream cheese cakes being her specialties. She was very active within her church families, playing the piano for many years at St Johns Community Church, as well as her own card ministry. All of the children, big and small, knew if they needed a cure for their sweet tooth, all they needed to do was find Mrs. Linda and her gallon bag of candy and gum. She was a member of St Johns Community Church but also attended Offerman Baptist Church for many years, where she was a member of the Faith Sunday School class.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph Ephram and Sarah Essie Murray Strickland. She was also preceded in death by all three of her brothers, Joseph Strickland, Milton Strickland, and Leonard Strickland, as well as her son-in-law, the Rev. Sammy Chancey.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Virgil D. Dixon, Sr., of Blackshear; three daughters, Gina Chancey of Brunswick, Joy (Guido) Valerio of Brunswick, and Leslie (Ricky) Allday of Blackshear; one son, Loy Dixon (Donna Palmer) of Blackshear; 10 grandchildren, Kyle (Kelcey) Chancey, Darby (Kameron) Best, Sasha (Corey) Valerio, Shayna Valerio (Al Palmer), Hannah Valerio (Chris Freiberg), Taylor Dixon, Shelby (Josh) Anderson, Linzee Simpson, Sarah Wall (Glenn Fitchett), and Kelley (Dustin) DePratter; 11 great-grandchildren, Luke, Cecily, Crosby, Kellen, Liam, Leesam, Blakely, Brady, Macy, Cash, and Nolan; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Linda will be held Tuesday morning, August 27, 2024, at 11:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Lightsey officiating.
