Mrs. Ruth Flanders Hendry, 95, of Blackshear, passed away Monday morning, June 22, 2020, at Twin Oaks Convalescent Center in Alma.
Born in Waycross, GA on August 17, 1924, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life. Mrs. Hendry was a 1942 graduate of Waycross High School. She married the love of her life, James Bradley “Jim” Hendry, Sr. and moved all over the country as a proud military wife. Over the years Mrs. Hendry began working on her family genealogy and that led her to becoming involved in not only Pierce County’s history but her church’s history as well. She was very helpful in working with the Pierce County Chamber of Commerce and the Blackshear First United Methodist Church in recording events over the years. Mrs. Hendry was the oldest member of Blackshear FUMC at the time of her passing. She was a proud mother to her three boys, and an equally proud grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Hendry has left a wonderful legacy of love for family and they were truly blessed to have her.
She was a daughter of the late Charles Leving & Fannie Jane Barwick Flanders. In addition to her late husband she was also preceded in death by all of her sisters and brothers, Alma Roberts, Sara Morris, Paul Flanders, John Flanders, Leon Flanders, and Henry Flanders.
