Mr. Russell Eugene Bennett, 67, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 4, 2023, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.
Born in Jacksonville, FL on December 18, 1955, he lived most of his life there before moving to Pierce Co. in 2007. A 1973 graduate of Englewood High School, he later became a diesel mechanic, working for Coastal Power. He loved working on cars and trucks and taking care of his cows. He was a big NASCAR fan, with Bill Elliott being his favorite driver. Mr. Bennett was of the Christian faith.
He was the son of the late Edward Daniel “Ed” Bennett, Sr., and Patricia Ann Dobbs Cunningham. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Sally Ann Parrish Bennett; a sister, Mary Jean Bennett; and both of his brothers, Harley D. Bennett and Edward Daniel “Danny” Bennett, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Suzanne A. “Suzy” Bennett of Blackshear; a daughter, Michelle Armstrong of Jacksonville, FL; two sons, Shane McPartland of Winter Park, FL and Richard Smith of Charleston, SC; a sister, Gladys Baker of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Darlene Bennett of Blackshear; one grandson, Ricky Smith, III; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will celebrate the life of Mr. Bennett at a later date.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
