Mrs. Ruby Edna Dickerson Dixon, 101 of Blackshear, passed away Friday morning, August 5, 2022, at Harborview – Pierce County Nursing Home.
Born in Homerville, GA on February 10, 1921, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life. Mrs. Dixon had worked as a welder for Liberty Ships during World War II prior to working as a seamstress for Gilmore’s Department Store. Later in her life she operated her own sewing business from her home. Sewing and canning were some of her favorite things to do but she was also an excellent cook who loved to feed her family at different get-togethers. Mrs. Ruby loved shopping and dearly loved her family. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She was a daughter of the late Robert Reppard & Mary Edna Byrd Dickerson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Dixon; two sons, Bud Dixon and Bobby Dixon (and his wife, Patsy), a granddaughter, Lindee Dixon; two step-daughters, Dorothy Rowell McKinnon and Lucy Dixon; both of her sisters, Ethel Kandetzkie (and her husband, Bill) and Ora Mae Altman (and her husband, Romey); and her brother, J. C. Dickerson (and his wife, Bertie).
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dale & Hardy Thornton of Blackshear; her son, Morris Dixon of Blackshear; 5 grandchildren, James Robert (Tammy) Dixon, Teke (Michelle) Dixon, Andy Dixon, Holly Thornton, and Doug Thornton; numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dixon will be held Monday afternoon, August 8, 2022, at 3:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Long and Rev. Teke Dixon officiating.
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Dixon will be held at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.
