Mrs. Rosie Elizabeth Carnes Tillman, 99, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday evening, August 24, 2023, at her residence.
Born in Tiger, GA on May 1, 1924, she lived in Pierce County most of her life. She retired from United Egg. Mrs. Tillman enjoyed fishing, gardening, quilting, and riding the lawn mower. In her later years she loved going out to eat, especially to Jerry J’s in Blackshear where she was known to every employee as “Granny”. She always found a way to make everyone smile when she walked into the restaurant. She was of the Pentecostal Faith.
She was a daughter of the late Caney Silvester & Lavonia Azalee Lovell Carnes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Arvil Tillman.; a son, William Arvil Tillman Jr.; both of her sisters, Ruby Wasdin, and Rachel Hyers; and all of her brothers, Doc Carnes, Dave Carnes, Sam Carnes, Tom Carnes, Bard Carnes, Mark Carnes, and Mack Carnes.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlotte Thrift, and Carolyn & Stanley Blalock all of Blackshear; a son and daughters-in-law, Dennis Lowell (Linda) Tillman of Clarksville Tn, and Pat Tillman of Blackshear.; 8 grandchildren, Brenda (David) Cash, Lynn Thrift, Kelly (Rodney) Bowen, Jean (David) Allday, Susanne Thrift, Elizabeth (Ron) Thornton, Vicki (Allen) Jeffords, and Selena (Archie) Bennett.; 14 great-grandchildren.; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorial Service for Mrs. Tillman will be held Monday afternoon, August 28, 2023, at 2:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
