Mrs. Rosa Marie Hice Tanner, 78 of Blackshear, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021, at Memorial Satilla Health under the care of Hospice Satilla.
Born in Lenoir, NC on April 27, 1943, she had lived in Jacksonville, FL for many years before moving to Pierce County in 2002. Mrs. Tanner was a housewife and of the Pentecostal faith. She was known for her baking skills, her manicured nails, never having a hair out of place, her wonderful story telling ability, and her German heritage which she was so proud of. Mrs. Tanner was a lady of unconditional love and embraced everyone she met treating them like family. She was a faithful wife who will be remembered for her soft touch and warm smile but most importantly just for the fact that She Loved – period.
She was the daughter of the late Arville Henry & Lucille Fox Hice. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arville Ikerd.
Survivors include her husband who together would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 12th, Wiley Clayton “Bo” Tanner of Blackshear; two daughters, Denise Renee “Kelli” Attaway of Charlotte, NC and Crystal Dawn Simpson of North Carolina; a son, Duwayne Melvin Simpson of North Carolina; a brother, Alton (Loretta) Hice of Hudson, NC; Two sisters-in-law, who were like her sisters, Judy Nettles (Warnie) and Colleen Corbitt (Eugene) all of Blackshear; a brother-in-law, Dewayne Tanner of Brunswick; 4 grandchildren, Morgan Attaway, Dominique Attaway, Perry Attaway, and Aliya Attaway; 5 great grandchildren, Asaiah, Jeremiah, Penelope, Kareem. Jr., and Malani; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tanner will be held Thursday afternoon, September 9, 2021, at 1:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Warnie Nettles. Giving the Eulogy will be Mrs. Tanner’s nephew and “second son”, Mr. Christopher Nettles. Musical selections will be rendered by Shelly Nettles Middleton, Pamela Corbitt Majdi, Christopher Nettles, Joshua Nettles, Jade Nettles, Warnie Nettles, and Sandra Morgan.
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Tanner will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions in Marie's memory to the family.
