Robert Donald Thornton, Jr

Mr. Robert Donald (Robby) Thornton, Jr, 59, of Patterson, GA, passed away Wednesday evening, March 1, 2023, at his residence.

Born in Blackshear, GA on November 5, 1963, he had lived all of his life in Pierce County. Mr. Thornton was a member of the first graduating class of the newly formed Pierce County High School in 1982.  A plumber by trade, he enjoyed spending his free time hunting, fishing and riding his horse.  Affectionately known by his family and friends as “Captain Hairdo”, he enjoyed spending time with them riding the side by side, and in his younger days, playing softball.  The mountains were a favorite place to spend time with his family and he did so every chance he could.  Mr. Thornton was a member of Offerman Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Robert Donald and Annette Kimbrell Thornton, Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Brenda Toler Thornton of Patterson; his daughter, Taylor Thornton (Colt Hartt) of Patterson; his son, Robby Thornton of Patterson; three brothers, DeWayne (Jamie) Crisp of Patterson, Tim Crisp of Mt Pleasant, SC, and Scott Thornton of Offerman; two grandchildren, Gracelyn and Hayzie Jo Hartt of Patterson; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Thornton will be held Saturday morning, March 4, 2023 at 11 o’clock from the Offerman Baptist Church with the Rev. James Lightsey and Rev. Keith Brown officiating.

Interment will be in Laura Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock.

Active pallbearers will be Joey Taylor, David Taylor, Greg Douberly, Sammy Hendrix, Ricky Hall, Heath Walker, and Tony Strickland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southeast Cancer Unit.
