Phyllis Elaine (Peacock) Courson

Mrs. Phyllis Elaine Peacock Courson, 74 of Blackshear, passed away Monday morning, June 27, 2022, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Blackshear, GA on September 23, 1947, she had lived in Pierce County all her life.  Mrs. Courson had owned and operated Liz & Lum’s Clothing Store (later known as The Bear Emporium) in Blackshear for several years prior to cleaning houses which she did for a few years.  She would go on to retire from the Pierce County Board of Education having worked in the lunchroom at the Pierce County Middle School.  Mrs. Courson loved doing arts and crafts, tending to her flowers and garden, cooking and baking, and quilting and sewing.  She also enjoyed farm-life and tending to her goats and chickens.  She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always enjoyed spending time with them.  Mrs. Courson was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

She was a daughter of the late Christopher Columbus “Lumby” Peacock and Martha Elizabeth “Betty” Cochran Peacock.  She was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Mason Bagley.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Clayton Carlton “Carl” Courson of Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles & Teresa Courson and Tony & Sabrina Courson all of Blackshear; three brothers, Foy Peacock of St. Simons, and Chris (Ann) Peacock and David Peacock all of Blackshear; 5 grandchildren, Cassie (Steve) Howard, Taylor Bagley, Breanna Luke, Avery Courson, and Travis Courson; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A memorial service for Mrs. Courson will be held Friday afternoon, July 1, 2022, at 4:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
