Mr. Michael Clarence “Mike” Johnson, 55, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Friday afternoon, February 2, 2024.
Born in Blackshear, GA on June 13, 1968, he lived in Atlanta & Dallas, TX prior to moving to Charlotte in 1997. Mike was a 1986 graduate of Pierce County High School where he was the class Valedictorian as well as the Star Student for the 1985-86 school year. He received his associate’s degree from Waycross College and went on to graduate from Georgia Technical Institute in 1991 with a degree in Textile Engineering. While at GA Tech he was in the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Mike went to work for Queens Carpet in Dalton, GA as a Textile Engineer prior to going to work for Microsoft. He started out as a Tech Support Specialist but soon worked his way up to be the head of Quality Control for Tech Support having traveled all over the continental US training tech support staff. His claim to fame was his motto, “kill them with kindness” which with his southern charm and calming demeaner he was able to do so well. Mike retired from Microsoft after 30 years of dedicated service.
Mike enjoyed gardening and loved plants. He was always very environmentally conscious and was also very technologically minded. Mike enjoyed staying fit and always wanted to be the best at whatever he did. Shopping for good deals, traveling, home improvement projects, and checking out restaurants were some of his favorite things that he enjoyed throughout his life. Mike was a member of Bristol Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Romey Clarence Johnson.
Survivors include his mother, Nova Dean Hyers Johnson of Mershon; his sister and brother-in-law, Tammy & Ricky Braswell of Mershon; his brother, Scottie Johnson of Waycross; two nieces, Kayla (Davis) Finger and Haley (Sam) Dunn; a special aunt, Brenda (Cleve) Herrin of Nahunta; two special friends, Michael Dennis of Jacksonville, FL and Berniece Clark of Charlotte; his two pet Chihuahua’s, Abbie and Maggie; and several other relatives and friends.
