Mary Joan (Baxter) Graham

Mrs. Mary Joan Baxter Graham, 81 of Blackshear, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 13, 2022, at her residence.

Born in Blackshear, GA on April 9, 1941, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life.  Mrs. Graham was a 1959 graduate of Blackshear High School and was a retired federal loan officer for the USDA Farm Service Agency.  She loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed going on family vacations together with them. In her spare time, she enjoyed canning, fishing, dancing, and going to the beach. Mrs. Graham was a member of Ward Memorial Church.

She was a daughter of the late John J. & Irma Kathleen Johnson Baxter.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carrol William “Bill” Graham; a sister, Joyce Baxter Sisk; a brother, David Baxter; and a grandchild, Joshua Wood.

Survivors include her four daughters, Debbie McCullars of Blackshear, Terri (Teddy) Hobbs of Hillard, FL, Pam (Reggie) Popham of Blackshear, and Karen (Johnny) Thrift of Waycross; eight grandchildren, Tanji (Jamey) Cribbs, Joseph (Emilee) Hobbs, Chad (Amanda) Hobbs, Michael (Loretta) Jones, Tavis Popham, Chase (Simone) Popham, Shayna (Cliff) Corbitt, and Dakota Thrift (Maegan Holton); 12 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Shirley Graham of Baxley; a special niece, Kathleen (Hank) Askins of Charleston, SC; two special nephews, Gordy Sisk of Atlanta and Scotty Graham of Hazlehurst; and several nieces, other nephews, and relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Graham will be held Saturday afternoon, July 16, 2022, at 4 o’clock from Ward Memorial Church.

Interment will be in the Blackshear City Cemetery.

Visitation for Mrs. Graham will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
