Mary Carol “Nana” Payne, most known as mama to many and Nana to all 10 of her grandchildren; departed her loving family on October 6,2023.
Carol was born in Fernandina Beach, FL. on December 24,1955; to her mother ‘Hester’ Savilla (Chancey) Crosby and her Father Robert ‘Lester’ Crosby of Offerman, Ga.
Carol was a loving faithful wife of 50 years to her husband ‘Donald’ Alfred Payne of Blackshear, Ga. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary on February 2, 2023. Together they raised their 3 children: David Harry Payne, Robert Ashley Payne, and Amanda Carol Payne Smith, with love and devotion in Blackshear, Ga.
Carol worked at Barber’s Pharmacy for many years; and retired from CCU at Satilla Regional Hospital in Waycross.
In addition to her devotion to her husband, children, and grandchildren she loved growing flowers, cooking, and helping people in need. She was a friend to many. All who knew her loved her dearly.
Mrs. Payne is preceded by her parents ‘Hester Savilla Crosby and Robert ‘Lester’ Crosby; her sisters and brothers Nita Weir, Annette Sikes, Eddie Crosby, Joe Crosby, Sarah ‘Lil’ Thrift and Ronnie Crosby.
She is survived by her husband Donald Payne; her children David H. Payne (Lori) of Nahunta, R. Ashley Payne of Blackshear and Amanda C. Payne Smith (Mac) of Waycross; 10 Grandchildren Maggie Payne, Hannah Strickland, Amber Strickland, Evan Payne, Abby Payne, Lily Payne, Emersyn Payne, Taylor Smith, Daisy Thigpen and Ranson Thigpen; her sisters Marie Andersen of Blackshear and Billie Cornelius (Don) of Nashville, Ga.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Payne will be held Tuesday afternoon, October 10, 2023, at 3:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the New Home Cemetery in Patterson.
