Ms. Mary Grace Sweat Hancock, 81 of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday morning, June 7, 2022, at Harborview – Pierce County.
Born in Patterson, GA on February 13, 1941, she had lived in Jacksonville, FL, Asheville, NC, and Virginia prior to moving to Blackshear in April. She was a retired insurance investigator for Humana and was of the Baptist faith. Ms. Hancock played basketball in high school and had also loved to play softball. She was very artistic and loved to paint and draw. She also loved animals and gardening. Going to the beach and collecting shark’s teeth and seashells was always enjoyed. Ms. Hancock dearly loved her family and was always a selfless woman who was faithful in her walk with God.
She was a daughter of the late James Henry & Lena Estelle Thornton Sweat. She was also preceded in death by both of her sisters, Lydia Nell Sweat Mills and Emelyne Sweat Walker; and four brothers, John Carl Sweat, Claude Davis Sweat, Leonard Burney Sweat, and James Henry Sweat.
Survivors include her daughter, Tracy Hancock of Gatlinburg, TN; her son, Warren Hancock of Eagle, CO; her brother and sister-in-law, Tommy & Mary Sweat of Patterson; her grandson, Wyatt Hancock; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Graveside services for Ms. Hancock will be held Wednesday morning, June 15, 2022, at 11:00 o’clock from the Laura Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery prior to the service.
