Lula Callahan Obituary

 

Mrs. Lula Agnes Davis Callahan, 88 of Mershon, passed away Monday afternoon, January 6, 2020, at Harborview – Pierce County.

Born in Mershon, GA on September 17, 1931, she had lived in Pierce County all of her life.  Mrs. Callahan was a 1949 graduate of Patterson High School –the “49ers” as they liked to be called.  She and her late husband, Carroll, owned and operated the Callahan Dairy for many years.  The dairy is located next to her home that she lived in all of her life and her love of gardening is evident by the immaculate yards she kept.  One couldn’t pass by her home without admiring her beautiful flowers and immaculate yard.  Mrs. Callahan was also an excellent cook.  She was an active member of Patterson Baptist Church having served as a past president of the WMU as well as serving in many other capacities.  She had also served as a past president of the Piedmont Okefenokee Association.  She and her husband had enjoyed many years of traveling both in the US and abroad as well as being with their many friends and various supper clubs.  Mrs. Callahan was a loving mother and grandmother and was affectionately known as “Ma” by them all.  She is now at peace and home with her Lord, family, and many friends.

She was a daughter of the late Reppard William & Alma Jane Smiley Davis.  In addition to her late husband, James Carroll Callahan, Sr., she was also preceded in death by her sister, Myrtice Davis Fountain.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Stella Jane & B. C. “Rusty” Youmans, Jr. of Patterson; her son and daughter-in-law, James Carroll “Jim” & Jane Callahan, Jr. of Mershon; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca Jane & Johnny Thigpen, Sarah Agnes & Dathan McIntosh, James Carroll “J.C.” & Anna Callahan, III, and Jena Elizabeth Callahan; 4 great grandchildren, Mason McIntosh, Daisy Jane Thigpen, Russ McIntosh, and Ranson Thigpen; special nieces Judy Byrd of Patterson and Susan Cahoon of Atlanta; and several other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Callahan will be held Thursday afternoon, January 9, 2020, at 2:00 o’clock from the Patterson Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family will also be receiving friends at the home of Jim & Jane Callahan, 4044 Walkerville Road.

Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
