Louis Richard "Ricky" Sheffield

Mr. Louis Richard “Ricky” Sheffield, 60 of Blackshear, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer & liver disease.

Born in Blackshear, Georgia on November 5, 1961, he had lived in Pierce County all of his life. Ricky was employed by The Body Shop of Waycross as a body tech before his health started to decline. He enjoyed his farm animals especially his chickens and goats. Ricky was a member of Old English Game Bantam Club of America and had received many poultry awards throughout the years. He enjoyed listening to gospel music. He really enjoyed vacationing in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. He loved all of his family especially his grandchildren. He had been attending Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Hoboken.

He was the son of the late Louis Olynthous & Mary Sheffield and Eugene & Wynelle Eloise Lee Groover. He was also preceded in death by his son little Ricky Sheffield; his daughter, Mandy Dempsey; four brothers-in-law, Robin Crawford, James Mancil, Revis Courson, and Eddie Altman; two sisters-in-law, Judy Courson and Jeanette Altman.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Angela Courson Sheffield of Blackshear; two daughters, Heather (James) Dixon of Blackshear and Ciara (Tim) Varnadore of Rose Hill, VA; two sons, Austin (Kate) Bryan of Blackshear and Seth Bryan (Nigeria Green) of Waycross; a son-in-law, Brent Dempsey of Jacksonville, AR; 4 sisters, Debbie (William) Peacock, Gina Crawford, and Diane Mancil all of Blackshear and Wendy Hunter of Waycross; 10 grandchildren, Katie Dempsey, Riley Ruis, Emily Bryan, Eli Dixon, Brystol Dixon, Audrey Varnadore, Evvie Varnadore, Charlotte Varnadore, Natalie Varnadore, and Khiri Bryan; two sister & brother in laws, Agnes (Phillip) Nichols and Travis (Diane) Courson all of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation for Ricky will be held on Tuesday April 12, 2022, 6-8pm at Pearson-Dial Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday April 13, 2022, at 11:00am at Youmans Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Gunter officiating.

Interment will be in the Kettle Creek Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Travis Stanley, Kelly Forkum, Dan Sheffield, Paul Sheffield, Brad Jones, and Robert Altman.
