Lloyd “Bud” Louis Burnette, age 90, of Midlothian, Va., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2022.
Bud was born December 29, 1931 in Lyons, N.Y. and was the only child of Lloyd L. & Laura R. Burnette. Bud graduated from North Rose Central High School and the Rochester Business Institute, and attended Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. He joined the US Navy in 1951, serving two terms of active duty before receiving an Honorable Discharge. He then transferred into inactive duty and worked as a US Government employee, eventually retiring in 1987 from the Defense General Supply Center in Richmond, Va. He was also a co-owner of Red Butler Furniture Company.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bennett Burnette; son, William “Bill” R. Burnette (Nancy); grandson, Kenneth M. Conner (Johari); granddaughter, Kristen N. Conner; stepdaughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Reid (James); and stepson, James “Jim” Herrin (Kathy). He was especially fond of his grandchildren, Megan, Ashley, Michael and Kayla; and his great-grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as “Papa Bud”. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Conner; and grandson, James “Jimmy” R. Reid III.
Bud’s relationship with God was a priority to both him and his wife Margaret. He routinely shared his faith with others he met. He served as a Deacon at Grove Avenue Baptist Church, then was a member of the West End Assembly of God, and more recently a member of Buford Road Baptist Church in Midlothian, Va.
A service will be held Wednesday, April 6 from 10:00 – 11:00am at Buford Road Baptist Church, 819 Buford Rd, Richmond, Va. 23235. The family will have a graveside service at the Bristol Cemetery in Bristol, GA later this month.
