Mr. Lewis Mathew Lyons, 83 of Patterson, passed away Saturday evening, September 4, 2021, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House.
Born in Zirkle, GA (Offerman) on November 8, 1937, he had lived in Pierce and Brantley Counties all his life. He had worked in the Pulp Wood business for a time before becoming a heavy equipment operator. Over the years he had worked for the late William Wall and the late Wes Bennett. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed tinkering around with anything mechanical. In his younger days, he had enjoyed fishing.
He was a son of the late Mathew Dixon & Janey Elizabeth Warner Lyons. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Mae Campbell Lyons; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his children, Rex Allen Lyons of Blackshear, Linda Kay (Carroll) Sims of Patterson, Vanessa Jane (Jerry) Cason of Offerman, Carmen Lynn (Wayne) Sweat of Lawrenceville, and Regina Faye (Doug) Mealor of Villa Rica; two step children, Joy Hoag of Offerman and Toy Douglas of Blackshear; his siblings, Teeai Crosby of Waynesville, Juanita Drury of Brunswick, Noah “Bo” (Olivia) Kersey of Brunswick, and Rochelle “Rocky” (Lisa) Kersey of Hortense; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Due to COVID-19, the family will have a Celebration of Life service for Mr. Lyons at a later date.
