Ms. Lee Preacher Carden, 98 of Waycross, formerly of Blackshear, passed away early Monday morning, September 12, 2022, at Baptist Village Retirement Community.
Born in Allendale, SC on August 15, 1924, she had lived in Pierce County since 1960. Ms. Carden had worked for the Federal Government in the Treasury Department before moving to Blackshear and going to work for Peoples Bank where she had worked in bookkeeping and as a bank teller. Ms. Carden was a member of the Blackshear Presbyterian Church where she had loved to sing in the choir. Over the years she enjoyed crocheting and quilting and was a wonderful cook.
She was a daughter of the late Walter Monroe & Lucy McCoy Googe Preacher. She was also preceded in death by a son, Harry Monroe “Monnie” Carden; and both of her sisters, Sara Barber and Helen Trotti.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Penny & Rhys Jones of Brookhaven, GA; two sons & three daughters-in-law, John H. “Tripp”, III & Michelle Carden of Tavares, FL, Ty & Denise Carden of Blackshear, and Wilda Carden of Barnwell, SC; 6 grandchildren, Lauren Carden Turner, Abby Jones, Emily Jones, Ty B. “T.J.” (Tessa) Carden, Jr., Matthew Carden, and Samuel J. Carden; 5 great grandchildren, Rylee Carden, Mary Kenlee Carden, Korlee Ann Harrelson, Carden Wade Turner, and Cohen Wyatt Turner; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Ms. Carden will be held Friday morning, September 16, 2022, at 11:00 o’clock from the Blackshear Presbyterian Church with Rev. Hampton Williams and Mr. Tony Batten officiating.
Visitation for Ms. Carden will be held Thursday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be T.J. Carden, Matthew Carden, Rhys Jones, Gary Tyson, Sonny Bowen, and Robby Metelits.
