Mrs. Leater Lucille Carter Rowland, 78 of Blackshear, passed away late Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at her residence.
Born in Blackshear, GA on September 21, 1941, she had lived in Pierce County all of her life. Mrs. Rowland had worked as a CNA at the former Memorial Hospital (now Memorial Satilla) and at Shady Haven Personal Care Home prior to working with her daughters at Dorminey Thrift Store in Waycross. She was a member of Youmans Chapel Baptist Church and loved to visit with everybody as well as help all those she could. Mrs. Rowland loved flowers, fishing, and staying on the go.
She was a daughter of the late Ronnie Isaac & Myrtle Roberson Carter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willard Franklin Rowland; and two brothers, Alvin Carter and Johnny Carter.
Survivors include her fiance’, Javier Oliver of Blackshear; her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda & Billy Hickox of Nahunta; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Ronnie “J.R.” Rowland of Blackshear and Charlie & Amy Rowland of Waycross; an adopted daughter, Rhonda Dodson of Waycross; a sister, Lewanna (Allen) Strickland of Blackshear; two brothers, Jimmy Carter of Blackshear and Joe (Kaye) Carter of Waycross; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rowland were held Friday morning, October 4, 2019, at 11:00 o’clock from the Youmans Chapel Baptist Church.
Officiating were Rev. Richard Johnson, Rev. Greg Carter, and Rev. Ralph Ramey.
Visitation was held Thursday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Interment was in the Waters Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Justin Ramey, Brandon Ramey, Lance Rowland, Dusty Rowland, Ken Strickland, and Ron Strickland.
