Mrs. Kathern Dixon Ricks, 76 of Blackshear, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Memorial Satilla Health.
Born in Blackshear, GA on November 14, 1943, she had lived in Pierce County all of her life. Mrs. Ricks was a 1961 graduate of Blackshear High School where she was the Salutatorian. For the past 38 years has been a bus driver for the Pierce County Board of Education. She loved to spend time with her grandbabies and enjoyed cooking and working in her church, Hopewell Baptist Church. She was in the Adult Sunday school and the Ladies Circle at Hopewell Baptist.
She was a daughter of the late James Elmer Dixon & Gladys Alene Boyett Dixon. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Osborn Dixon and Raymond Dixon.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Rev. M. L. Ricks of Blackshear; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David & Diane Turner and James Crawford all of Blackshear; three grandchildren, David Turner, Jr., Emily Turner, and Devan “Boo” Turner; a sister, Elvera Carter of Blackshear; a brother, Oran Dixon of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Due to COVID-19, the family had a private graveside service Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 11:00 o'clock at the Blackshear Cemetery.
Officiating were Rev. M.L. Ricks and Bro. David Williamson.
