Mr. Joseph Wayne Dixon, 73, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Southeast Georgia Health Systems – Brunswick Campus.
Born in Blackshear, GA on January 31, 1950, he had lived in Pierce County all his life. Mr. Dixon was a 1968 graduate of Blackshear High School and was a contractor, having previously owned and operated Dixon & Associates. When he was able, he loved to plant a garden, and enjoyed bird watching and fishing. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Georgia Bulldogs, and the Dick Van Dyke Show. Mr. Dixon was very musically inclined having played the guitar, the banjo, and the mandolin. He attended Abundant Life Christian Center.
He was a son of the late James Spencer & Juanita Jewell Sapp Dixon. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray Dixon; and two sisters-in-law, Bertie Dixon and Carolyn Dixon.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Cheryl Aldridge Dixon of Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey & Missy Dixon of De Leon Springs, FL and Jason & Sonya Dixon of Blackshear; four sisters, Wanda (Jimmy) Byrd, Nancy (John) McIntosh, Karen (Keith) Hayes, and Debbie (Brian) Bailey all of Blackshear; four brothers, Travis Dixon, Jerry (Burnice) Dixon, and Ronnie (Anne) Dixon all of Blackshear and Ted (Angie) Dixon of Waycross; two grandchildren, Sariah Dixon and Jacob Dixon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Dixon will be held Tuesday morning, October 17, 2023, at 11:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Hoboken.
