Joseph Carroll Thomas McKinney

Mr. Joseph Carroll Thomas McKinney, 58 of Blackshear, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021, at residence.

Born in Fort Valley, GA on March 2, 1963, he had lived in Waycross for several years before moving to Pierce County.  Mr. McKinney had worked for the former A & B Plants which helped to develop his love of plants.  Once they went out of business, he went to work for Wal-Mart in their Garden Department until his health forced him into an early retirement.  Mr. McKinney enjoyed landscaping, fishing, wrestling, watching the Sci-Fi Channel, especially Star Trek, as well as all kinds of action movies and westerns with John Wayne.  He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a son of the late Carroll William Thomas & Nancy Ellen Henry McKinney.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Edward McKinney and Dub McKinney.

Survivors include his fiancé’, Alice Eidson of Blackshear; his son, Joseph McKinney, II of Waycross; his sister, Zelda “Nancy” (Terry) Walden of Hampton, GA; his brother, Jimmy McKinney (fiancé’, Sheila Joyner) of Blackshear; two nephews, Dale Walden of Hampton and Jason (Brandy) McKinney of Blackshear; and several other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Mr. McKinney will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 5 pm at Crosspoint Community Church in Waycross.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
