Mr. Joseph Roger Keener, 76, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at River Brook Healthcare Center in Homerville.
Born in Waycross, GA on September 4, 1948, he had lived in Pierce County all his life. After graduation, Mr. Keener enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He went on to work for many years at Clayton Homes as a saw man millwright, where his hard-work ethic earned him the honor of Employee of the Month. Since his retirement, he has spent his free time fishing and spending time with his family, who he dearly loved.
He was a son of the late Clinton Clifford and Delois Barnes Keener. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Diane Gayle Moore Keener; a sister, Mary Alifaye Buckins; and three brothers, Alfred Keener, Bobby William Keener, and David Richard Keener.
He is survived by three sons, Carl (Ute) Massey of Brunswick, Fred (Susie) Massey of Blackshear, and Sam Head of Blackshear; two sisters, Nellie Kay Brooker of Birmingham, AL, and Dorothy Lou Anderson of Indianapolis, IN; a brother, Curtis Clinton Keener of North Carolina; six grandchildren, Ashley (Michael) Barry, Joe (Destiny) Prince, Amber Massey, Brandon (Skyy) Purdom, Bryan Purdom, and Abbie Head; eight great-grandchildren, Evelyn Barry, Amara Barry, Ely Barry, Elizabeth Prince, James Prince, Conner Prince, Remi Purdom, and Asher Purdom; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service for Mr. Keener will be held Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.
