Mr. John Anderson Collins, 77, of Hoboken, passed away Monday evening, February 19, 2024, at Memorial Satilla Health.
Born in Douglas, GA on September 19, 1946, he lived in Hoboken most of his adult life. Mr. Collins worked in construction in Florida and helped to build part of Walt Disney World. After he moved to Hoboken, he went to work for Varn Wood Products in their planing mill which he did for many years before an injury forced him to retire. Mr. Collins enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid knife collector. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late Ed & Ruth Mae Clements Collins, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cora Mae Tillman Collins, who passed away on December 21, 2023; a son, Joey Dasher; two sisters, Ann Merritt and Mattie Roberson; and two brothers, Ed Collins, Jr. and Gene Collins.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Joy & Elliot Pittman of Waycross; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Johnny (Darlene) Collins of Valdosta, Jessie Collins of Florida, and Jimmy (Alicia) Ruger of Blackshear; two sisters, Della Mae Lewis of Douglas and Martha (Terry) Barber of Sparks, GA; a brother, Billy (Jenelle) Collins of Waycross; 10 grandchildren, Rachelle (Jody) Thigpen, Barry (Shelby) Dasher, Mandy (Eddie) Beverly, Megan Ruger (Josh Nix), Jake Herrin, Alle Ruger, Austin Pittman, Summer (Blake) Fussell, Stephanie Collins, and Jonathan (Cassidy) Collins; numerous great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Graveside services for Mr. Collins will be held Thursday morning, February 22, 2024, at 11 o’clock, from the Hoboken Cemetery with Rev. Larry Altman officiating.
