Jo Ann (McSwain) McCaffrey

Mrs. Jo Ann McSwain McCaffrey, 80 of Blackshear, passed away late Thursday evening, December 10, 2020, at Harborview – Pierce County.

Born in Waycross, GA on March 12, 1940, she had lived in Jacksonville, FL for several years prior to moving to Pierce County 14 years ago.  She was a graduate of Waycross High School and had worked in the accounting business as a secretary for many years while living in Florida.  Mrs. McCaffrey and her late husband, Robert Michael “Mike’ McCaffrey, had enjoyed traveling over the years and her greatest companion since the death of her husband was her little dog, Molly.  She was a member of Blackshear First Baptist Church and the Enriched Sunday school class.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hansel & Ruby Crosby McSwain. In addition to her late husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, James Gregory Harper; and all of her sisters and brother, Athleen Blount, Jewel Lorincs, Margie McSwain, and Herman McSwain.

Survivors include her grandson, Ryan Gregory Harper of Naples, FL; two step-sons, Jon McCaffrey of Jacksonville and Charles (Dana) McCaffrey of Sarasota, FL; a brother-in-law, Charles Blount of Blackshear; and several nieces and nephews including Vicki & Glennis Tyre of Blackshear; and several other relatives.

As per Mrs. McCaffrey’s wishes, her inurnment will be private at Oakland Cemetery.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
