Jerry Edward Griffin, Sr.

Mr. Jerry Edward Griffin, Sr., 74 of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday morning, June 30, 2021, at his residence.
 
Born in Waycross, GA on March 5, 1947, he had lived in Pierce County all his life.  Mr. Griffin was a 1963 graduate of Patterson High School and furthered his education by becoming a counselor for a number of years at the Drug and Alcohol Center in Waycross that was located at the old YMCA building.  He would then go on to work for the State Prison System in Homerville as a counselor prior to becoming the deputy warden for which he would go on to retire.  Mr. Griffin enjoyed hunting and fishing and dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and spending time with them.  Over the years he made a lot of best friends and helped numerous people in many ways.  He was a member of the Blackshear First United Methodist Church.
 
He was a son of the late James Knight & Mildred Altman Griffin, Jr.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Jerry Edward “Chipper” Griffin, Jr.; and his brother, James K. “Jimmy” Griffin, III.
 
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Patsy Williamson Griffin of Blackshear; three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa & Mark Bowen and Joy & Ralph Shirley all of Blackshear and Shara & Bill Pisowicz of Charlotte, NC; three sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Williamson Knowlton of Blackshear, Betty Williamson Clayton of Suwanee, GA, and Betty Ruth Fortner Griffin (Mike) Quagliano of Evans, GA; 8 grandchildren, Miranda (John) B. Robins, Lauren (Chase) B. Stewart, William Shirley, Amanda (Glenn) S. Shirley, Hannah Shirley, Kyla (Evan) Sieges, Kinzi Pisowicz, and Kade Pisowicz; 8 great grandchildren, Kaley, Emilee, Skylynn, and Raylynn Robins, Addison Stewart, Hunter Shirley, Hensley Shirley, and Elsie Sieges; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
  
Funeral services for Mr. Griffin will be held Saturday afternoon, July 3, 2021, at 3:00 o’clock from the First United Methodist Church.
 
Interment will be in the Enon Cemetery.
 
The family will receive friends at the church Saturday afternoon from 1 until 3 pm.
 
The family kindly requests all Patterson High School classmates to serve as honorary pallbearers.  Please meet at the church by 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
