Born in Waycross, GA on February 28, 1948, he had lived in Pierce County all his life with the exception of two years during his military service.  He was a 1968 graduate of Blackshear High School and enlisted in the US Army following his graduation.  When he returned home from the military he went to work as a diesel mechanic for a few years.  He would later go on to be a truck driver for Thom’s Transport before being an owner/operator for FEC.  Mr. Carter had spent the last several years working as a truck driver for Ace Pole, now Beech Timber.  He was a big NASCAR fan and was always working on racecars.  He had spent the last two years farming with his grandson, Cale, and so enjoyed doing things with all of his grandchildren.  He was a member of Laura Chapel Baptist Church.

He was a son of the late Artimus Reinell & Deloris Jean Bennett Carter.  He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dan Taylor; and a sister-in-law, Jan Carter.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dana Jo Taylor Carter of Blackshear; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brandi & Clint Johnson of Douglas and Jena & Donnie Turbeville of Blackshear; three brothers, Terry Carter, Mike Carter (Donna Horne), and Mark (Connie) Carter all of Blackshear; 4 grandchildren, Cale Turbeville, Gracie Ann Johnson, Kassidy Turbeville, and Judd Johnson; his mother-in-law, Frances Taylor of Blackshear; a special cousin, Mike Cook of Douglasville; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
