Jean Johnson Dixon Obituary

Mrs. Jean Bryant Johnson Dixon, 90, of Blackshear, passed away Monday, October 12, 2020, at Memorial Satilla Health.

Born on April 17, 1930, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life.  She graduated from Blackshear High School in 1946 and attended classes at Okefenokee Tech and Waycross Junior College to continue her education.

She was a daughter of the late Liston Lee & Anna Lou “Sid” Henderson Bryant.  She was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Deborah Holt; her sister, Lera B. Pittman, and by her brother, Liston Lee “Hot Shot” Bryant.

She was married to the late Robert Allen “Bobby” Johnson for 191/2 years.  They ran a successful insurance business known as Johnson Insurance Agency.  Bobby passed away in 1967 from colon cancer.  She married her second husband, Dennis Dixon of Ft. Lauderdale and they lived there for five years before moving back to Blackshear where they continued Dennis Dixon Builders until his death in 2002 due to pancreatic cancer.

She loved music and dancing in her earlier years and had traveled to all original 48 states as well as traveled to foreign countries including Cuba, Mexico, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Nova Scotia, and Canada.  She enjoyed being with her friends playing Bridge and board games and had been active with the Eastern Star where she had served as Worthy Matron.

In 1978 she found her passion as a real estate agent and went on to become a broker in 1982 (she was one of the first female real estate brokers in our area).  She enjoyed several years as the owner of Jean Dixon Realty and went on to obtain her goal of Million Dollar Producer.

Over the years she had varied interests in several business ventures:  Insurance Agent, Real Estate Broker, decorator of homes, previous partner in motel and restaurant business, owned rental properties, and even owned an interest in an oil well in Kansas which she visited on one of her cross country trips.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Blackshear for 55+ years and served on several committees, most recently on the Parsonage Committee.  She enjoyed cooking for her family on Sundays and spending time together. After the loss of her grandson, Rob Johnson, those times became even more important to her.   The last several years when her health began to fail, her daughter-in-law, Wanda, became her primary caregiver and took wonderful care of her.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mike & Wanda Johnson of Blackshear; a step-daughter, Darlene Dixon of Florida; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Dan & Donna Dixon of Waycross; a son-in-law, Richard Holt of Oxford, GA; her granddaughter, Haley, and her husband, Jason, Ragsdale of Blackshear; her precious great granddaughters, Harlow and Haven Ragsdale; two step-granddaughters, Jaclyn Holt Haynes and Rachel Holt; a brother-in-law, Lamar Pittman of Waycross; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
