Jay Vonier Obituary

A visitation for Jay W. Vonier, 40, will be held 5-7pm, Saturday, March 7 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Mr. Vonier passed away in Gainesville, GA on March 3, 2020. He was born in Thomasville, GA on November 26, 1979, to Freddy G. Vonier and Mary Lou Minchew Vonier. As a child, he trusted Jesus as his savior and joined First Baptist Church. Jay graduated from Thomasville High School in 1998 and went on to attend Lanier Technical College and DeVry University. He had worked for Hoover Precision Products in Cumming, GA since 2002. Jay had a brilliant mind, a keen wit, and an unusual knack for science and technology. He read voraciously on a wide breadth of subjects. He loved camping, animals, and great pizza. Above all, he liked to fix things that were broken, restoring their usefulness for the people he loved. Friends and family will miss his sweet smile, generous spirit, and lively sense of humor. He was a loving and loyal son, brother, and friend. In addition to his parents, Jay is survived by his sister, Jennifer Vonier Mason (Chad), of St. Louis, MO; and cousin, Aimee Minchew Stevens (James), of Peachtree City, GA. He was preceded in death by grandparents, J.W. and Ida Vonier, T.M. and Ora Lee Minchew, Elwood Jarrard, and Murl Simoneaux; aunts and uncles, Ray and Sharon Minchew, Troy Minchew, and Clarice and Harold Clark; and also his much loved cousin, Tracy Minchew Todd. Graveside services for the family will be held in Blackshear, GA on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at 2:30 from the Blackshear City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Miss Kitty, P.O. Box 22, Thomasville, GA 31799 or The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or www.donate3.cancer.org.
