Mr. Jay Lawrence Russell, 67 of Blackshear, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Born in Kingston, NY on February 18, 1954, he had lived in Pierce County all his life. Mr. Russell was a 1972 honor graduate of Blackshear High School. He furthered his education by graduating from Waycross-Ware Tech with a degree in Drafting. He was currently a Project Superintendent for R. H. Tyson Construction where he had worked for the past 25 years. Mr. Russell was passionate about gardening and grilling all kinds of meats; was a perfectionist and very meticulous and believed that anything he did should be done well. Mr. Russell was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late Clarence Floyd & Jean Elizabeth Miller Russell.
Survivors include his wife if five years, Percy Dumahil Russell of Blackshear; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gina & Dusty Copeland of Waverly and Holly & Derek Steele of St. Marys; a step-daughter, Elizabeth (James) Gill of Tennessee; a sister, Joy (Tommy) Day of Blackshear; a brother, Fred (Darlene) Russell of Blackshear; 8 grandchildren, Bailey, Caden, Riley, Brice, Cassie Belle, Gavin, Emily, and Browning; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Russell will be held Thursday morning, October 7, 2021, at 11:00 o’clock at the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
Visitation for Mr. Russell will be held Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
