James Tyre Obituary

Mr. James Larry Tyre, 71 of Patterson, passed away Saturday morning, August 15, 2020, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Jesup, GA on December 9, 1948, he had lived in Pierce County most of his life.  Mr. Tyre was a 1966 graduate of Patterson High School and went on to serve in the US Army for two years.  He had worked for Harris Gin for many years and after they closed he went to work at Rayonier in Jesup where he would eventually retire.  Mr. Tyre was always working – whether it was mowing his yard or working on tractors.  He did enjoy fishing, especially with his grandchildren; never met a stranger, and would do anything for his friends.  Mr. Tyre dearly loved his family and oh how they will miss him and his beautiful smile.

He was a son of the late Andrew Jackson “Ander” & Nola Mae Thornton Tyre, Sr.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Faye Tyre.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Linda Laning Tyre of Patterson; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason & Heather Tyre of Patterson; his daughter and son-in-law, Christina & Kevin Johnson of Crestview, FL; two sisters, Nancy (Andy) Aspinwall and Virginia Foster (Bobby Williamson) all of Patterson; three brothers, Jack (Juanita) Tyre, Arthur (Mary Ann) Tyre, and David (Tina) Tyre all of Patterson; 5 grandchildren, Bowen Tyre, Jase Tyre, Cassie Cobb, Dalton Cobb, and Alicia Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
