James Carroll Thrift

Mr. James Carroll Thrift, 85 of Blackshear, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021, at Memorial Satilla Health.

Born in Blackshear, GA on March 2, 1935, he had lived in several different places due to his military career but moved back to Blackshear in the mid 70’s following his retirement from the US Army.  Mr. Thrift had served during the Korean conflict and during the Vietnam Theater where he received the Bronze Star and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.  He would complete 20 years of service retiring as a Master Sergeant.  He enjoyed hunting (fox and bobcat) and fishing and dearly loved his grandchildren especially his great grandchildren.

He was a son of the late John Riley & Mary Jewel Mock Thrift. 

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda & David Cash of Conyers, Lynn Thrift of San Antonio, TX, and Kelly & Rodney Bowen of Blackshear; a sister, Dartha Nell (Rommie) Hodge of Pensacola, FL; three brothers, Charles Thrift of Alma, Casper (Gonzela) Thrift of Hoboken, and Ray Thrift of Blackshear; 5 grandchildren, Jessica (Jared) Cline, Adam (Rachel) Cash, Beau Blount, Brody (Kimberly) Bowen, and Laney (Derrick) Bradshaw; 8 great grandchildren, Hudson, Henry, and Hollis Cline, Savannah Kate and Wyatt Cash, Kami & Jeb Bowen, and Landree Bradshaw; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Thrift will be held Thursday afternoon, February 11, 2021, at 12 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Ben James Cemetery with military honors.
