Mr. James Roy “Birdshot” Johnson, 48, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 20, 2023.
Born in McRae, GA on February 8, 1975, he lived in Pierce County most of his life. Mr. Johnson was a truck driver having worked for Thom’s Transport and later WBT. He formerly owned and operated his own trucking company, JRJ Trucking and just recently started driving for Cal-Maine Foods. Mr. Johnson was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, off-roading, and anything else outdoors. He had practiced MMA fighting at SMAC, loved to visit new places, and could fix or build anything. Mr. Johnson dearly loved his family and so enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was never afraid to show his silly side and would give the shirt off of his back to anyone who needed it.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, J.O. Johnson & Ophelia Vann Johnson; & his paternal grandmother, Hazel Sims.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Charlene Johnson of Blackshear; his daughter, Chasity (Mark) Staines of Blackshear; six sons, Dylan Johnson (Heather Purdue) of Woodstock, GA, Chris (Ivy) Johnson of Waycross, Gerald (Jessica) Johnson of Patterson, Dalton Johnson of Blackshear, Dawson Johnson of Woodstock, and Colby Johnson (Emaleigh Anderson) of Waycross; his parents, William & Sheena Johnson Sims of Blackshear; four brothers, Kevin Sims, Bobby Sims, and Leon (Patty) Johnson all of Blackshear and Daniel (Rosemary) Nelson of McRae; 6 grandchildren, Annabella Johnson, Aiden Johnson, Payton Staines, Jaxon Johnson, Aaron Staines, and Leda Purdue; and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held Monday morning, July 24, 2023, at 11:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
