Mr. James Herbert Norton, 77 of Patterson, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 26, 2019, at the Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, FL.
Born in Anniston, AL on August 2, 1942, he had lived in Anniston prior to moving to Pierce County in 1988. Mr. Norton was a retired Master Brick Mason. In his free time he had enjoyed fishing, going to the beach, working in his yard, cooking, reading his Bible, and shopping. For several years he baked cakes for youth auctions at Patterson Baptist Church where he was a member. Mr. Norton was a big Alabama fan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was a son of the late Herbert Norton & Hazel Mae Gill Norton.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Debra Ivey Norton of Patterson; four daughters, Renee Barber (Mike Boatright) of Blackshear, Laura (Mike) Garbkus of Atlanta, Jenny Norton Moody of Miami, FL, and Claire Norton Winkler of Atlanta; a son, Jamie Norton Moody of Ogden, UT; two sisters, Permelia (Travis) Bryant and Glenda (Gordon) Fennell all of Weaver, AL; his brother, Willard (Cindy) Norton of Pleasant Valley, AL; 7 grandchildren, Megan Barber (Walt Taylor), Taylor Barber, Trey Barber (Hannah Cloud), Andy Garbkus, Caroline Garbkus, Robert Morgan, and Lexi Morgan; 2 great grandchildren, Lyla Kate Taylor and Caroline Brooke Taylor; a life-long friend/brother, Jerry (Annette) Robertson of Weaver, AL; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Norton will be held Monday afternoon, December 2, 2019, at 2:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Members of the Men’s Sunday school class at Patterson Baptist Church are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the funeral home chapel by 1:30 on Monday afternoon.
