Mr. James Melvin Denison, 79, of Offerman, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024, at his residence.
Born in Screven, GA on October 28, 1944, he lived in Offerman most of his life. Mr. Denison had been a drill sergeant in the US Army. Once out of the Army, he went into farming then later went into construction working for Marvin Gill Construction before retiring due to his health. Mr. Denison’s favorite pastime was fishing, and he was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was a son of the late Melvin Lester & Carrie Thornton Denison. He was preceded in death by a son, Tom Denison; a grandson, Melvin Lester Denison, Jr.; his sister, Judy Denison; a brother, Thomas Denison; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Knowles.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Rhodes Denison of Offerman; four daughters, Carrie (Brett) Carter of Mershon, April Griffin of Waycross, and Tina Denison and Linda Denison both of South Carolina; two sons, Jamie (Veronica) Denison of Odum and Lester Denison of Screven; a brother and sister-in-law, Ellis & Brenda Denison of Offerman; two brothers-in-law, David (Debbie) Rhodes of Offerman and Daniel Rhodes of Patterson; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Denison will be held Friday morning, May 17, 2024, at 11:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Foster Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.
