Mr. Herbert Charles Courson, 88 of Blackshear, passed away early Sunday morning, March 8, 2020, at Harborview in Jesup following a lengthy illness.
Born in Pierce County on September 23, 1931, he had lived in Pierce County most of his life. Mr. Courson was a US Navy Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict in Korea, China, & the Philippines. He had been a truck driver and rebuilt wrecked cars for a living. Mr. Courson loved fishing and gardening and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he was in the Senior Adult Sunday school class.
Mr. Courson was a son of the late Charles and Mary Jane Sapp Courson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Crump and Elouise Courson; and two brothers, Harold Courson and David Courson.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Edith Tucker Courson of Blackshear; his daughter, Geraldine Vick of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, J. Hugh (Betty) Courson of Palatka, FL and Johnny (Barbara) Courson and Dennis Courson all of Blackshear; a sister-in-law, Shirley Courson of Blackshear; 5 grandchildren, Dennis (Lori) Drott, Danielle (David) Johnson, Jan Cumming, Amber Petti, and A. J. Palmatier; several great grandchildren including Ava Drott, Aly Drott, and Emma Lou Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Courson will be held Tuesday afternoon, March 10, 2020, at 3:00 o’clock from the Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Interment will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
Visitation for Mr. Courson will be held two hours prior to the service (1-3pm) at the church.
Members of the Senior Adult Sunday school class are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the church by 2:30 on Tuesday.
