Mr. Heath Harmon Mizell, 57, of Waycross, passed away early Sunday morning, October 22, 2023, at Memorial Satilla Health.
Born in Dumas, Arkansas on September 29, 1966, he had lived in Waycross for the past several years. Heath was a Class 2 Welder for Sea Ark Marine. He loved football, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Georgia Bulldogs along with some NFL teams. He also loved cooking and BBQ-ing for his family and friends no matter what the occasion nor did he need one to just cook. Heath loved his family and friends and would often play jokes on them.
He especially loved his granddaughter and had fun taking “make-believe” pictures with her on her camera. He bragged about all the pictures now “hanging on his wall” that she took and only they could see. Heath had such a good sense of humor about him, and it made others feel loved and cherished. He was of the Baptist faith.
Heath loved watching his westerns in his down time when he wasn’t out building something or working on a new project. Family and friends recall Heath always had a drill or saw in his had ready and able to work on anything that needed fixing no matter how hard the job was. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger life but as he aged and his health deteriorated, he found joy in the simple things with his husband like playing with their dogs, Copper & Buttercup Mizell.
His son, Blake, said of his dad, “My dad was one of the strongest men you would have ever meet. No matter how hard life got, he always got through it.”
He was a son of the late Kenneth Harmon Mizell, Sr. and Glenda Joyce Jones Mizell. He was also preceded in death by all three of his brothers, Ken Mizell, Rex Sullivan, and Russell Sullivan; a brother-in-law, David Winchester; fathers-in-law, Jim Newton and Audie Chancey; and mother-in-law, Mary B. Chancey.
Survivors include his husband, Earley Troy Chancey of Waycross; his son and daughter-in-law, Cameron Blake & Rachel Mizell of Waycross; his grandchildren, Kimber Wes Mizell, Jaxson Reece Blankenship, and Cherokee Nicole Moye; and he was looking forward to meeting his newest granddaughter, Harmony Dallas Mizell; a sister, Jackie (Dana) Sullivan of El Dorado, AR; a sister-in-law, Waunee Winchester (John Morris) of Alma; his mother-in-law, Wilma Newton of Star City, AR; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
