Mrs. Geraldine Strickland Thornton, 92, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday morning, May 8, 2023, at her residence.
Born in Patterson, GA on March 20, 1931, she lived in Hollywood, FL for forty-five years before returning to Pierce County in 2002. Mrs. Thornton worked for Upjohn Health Agency while living in Florida and had been a homemaker for the past several years. She liked to bowl, crochet, do arts and crafts, and fish. Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Red Hat Society and was a member/volunteer at the Pierce County Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of Laura Chapel Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
She was the daughter of the late Lonnie William & Mildred M. Cantrell Strickland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Thornton; her son-in-law, Ed Spurlock; and both of her brothers, Harold Strickland and Leon Strickland.
Survivors include her daughter, Anita Spurlock of Blackshear; her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Ray & Terry Thornton of New Smyrna Beach, FL; 3 grandchildren, Anesha (Collin) Lee, Dwayne Fulton (Joy Edgy), and Chad Thornton; 7 great grandchildren, Justin Lee, Christian Lee, Matt (Obey Jean) Mclaughin, Carson Fulton, Kassidy Thornton, Tye Thornton, and Kensley Thornton; 3 great, great grandchildren, Annabelle Lee, Rylee Lee, and Dean Mclaughlin; a special friend, Pat Saunders of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service for Mrs. Thornton will be held Friday afternoon, May 12, 2023, at 1:30 from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
