Gerald Downing "JR" Riggins, Jr.

Mr. Gerald Downing “JR” Riggins, Jr., 53 of Folkston, passed away Sunday morning, January 10, 2021, in Folkston following a sudden illness.

Born in Jacksonville, FL on May 9, 1967, he was raised in Jacksonville before moving to Waycross in the late 80’s and lived there until moving to Folkston a little over a year ago.  Mr. Riggins had worked in the roofing business for a short time prior to working with All-Safe Fire Protection and Asplundh Tree Service.  For the past 2 years he had worked for D.M. Forestry as a log truck driver and was mighty proud of his candy apple red Peterbilt.  A true outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, and working in the woods with his job.  He also enjoyed cooking – especially on the grill – and loved the Florida Gators.  Mr. Riggins was a loving father and grandfather.  He was of the Baptist faith.   

He was a son of the late Gerald Downing Riggins and Lorene Elizabeth Crawley Thompson.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Lee Riggins.

Survivors include his children, Jessica (Luke) Wolfe and Jacob (Angel) Riggins all of Blackshear; three sisters, Sherri (Ronald) Jackson of Jacksonville, Victoria “Vicki” Telesky of New York, NY, and Wendy Pickett of Yulee; three brothers, Jason Riggins of Jacksonville, Danny (Carol) Riggins of Middleburg, FL, and Collon Telesky of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Matthew Wolfe and Bentley Downing Riggins; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Graveside services for Mr. Riggins will be held Friday morning, January 15, 2021, at 11:00 o’clock at the Jordan Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the cemetery one hour prior to the service.      

Due to COVID-19, social distancing guidelines and the wearing of facemasks are mandatory.
