George McQuaig Obituary

Mr. George David McQuaig, 82, of Patterson, passed away Monday evening, May 22, 2023, at the St. Vincent’s Medical Center – Riverside.

Born in Waycross, GA on January 2, 1941, he had lived in Ware County for several years before moving to Pierce County in 1976.  Mr. McQuaig was a 1959 graduate of Ware County High School and attended South Georgia College in Douglas.  He worked for CSX Transportation as a draftsman for a couple of years before going into the family business, Speedy McQuaig & Sons, with his father and brother.  Mr. McQuaig taught himself how to operate a computer and even created computer programs to help with his business.  He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and all animals. 

He was a son of the late Herman David & Atwell Paulk McQuaig.  

Survivors include his of wife of 59 years, Kathy Norman McQuaig of Patterson; two daughters, Georgia McQuaig (Mike Walsh) of Blackshear and Dee (Chris) White of Savannah; his brother, Richard McQuaig of Waycross; his granddaughter, Elizabeth White; two nephews, Butch (Casey) McQuaig of Waycross and David (Misty) McQuaig of Argyle; a niece, Marci (Andy) Johnson of Waycross; and several other relatives.

As per his wishes, Mr. McQuaig’s family will honor him and his life privately by doing what he loved, being on the river.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
