Mr. Gary Robert Burkhalter, 60 of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Born in Jacksonville, FL on March 18, 1961, he had lived in Pierce County most of his life. Gary was a 1979 graduate of Brantley County High School. Following his graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Marines and went on to serve for five years. He had worked in the paint and body repair business for many years before becoming disabled. His favorite pastime was fishing but he also enjoyed cooking/grilling, being with his family, and animals – including catching snakes. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late Robert Cecil Burkhalter. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Denise Burkhalter.
Survivors include his companion and caregiver, Debra Moody of Blackshear; his son, Kyle (Diamond) Close of Waycross; his mother, Colleen Crawford Burkhalter of Patterson; his sister, Shane Vickery (Lyndell Davis) of Patterson; his brother, Cody (Tami) Burkhalter of Alma; two grandchildren, Zeke Close and Zoey Close; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Gary will be held Saturday afternoon, March 27, 2021, at 2:00 from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be in the Beulah Cemetery.
Visitation for Gary will be held at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.
