Fred Lamar Carter

Mr. Fred Lamar Carter, 77 of Alma, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021, at The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

Born in Alma, GA on May 28, 1943, he had lived in Bacon County most of his life.  Mr. Carter was a 1962 graduate of Bacon County High School.  He farmed all his life but was also considered a “Jack of All Trades” since he was able to do anything he set his mind to.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and even working.  Mr. Carter was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. 

He was a son of the late Talmadge Lamar & Sara Maureen Tuten Carter.  He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Marie Carter; his sister, Pat Schrews; and by his brother, Wayne Carter.

Survivors include his wife of 11 years; Judy Davis Carter of Alma; his daughter, Becky Griffin of Pierce County; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff & Tonia Carter of Middleburg, FL and Cleve & Missy Carter of Orange Park, FL; two step-sons and their wives, Brad & Victoria Peterson and Eric & Tiffany Peterson all of Hinesville; 16 grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Mike, Jesse, Hannah, Sarah, Evan, Zach, Carter, Claire, Katie, Christopher, Briana, Ariana, Camden, and Kendall; 2 great grandchildren with one on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Carter will be held Wednesday afternoon, May 19, 2021, at 3:00 o’clock from Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Interment will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Carter will be held at the church two hours prior to the service.

The family kindly requests members of the Bacon County High School class of 1962 to serve as honorary pallbearers.  Please meet at the church by 2:30 Wednesday.
