Ms. Evelyn Louise Hicks Still Tolbert, 83, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 2, 2023, at the River Brook Healthcare Center in Homerville.
Born in Donaldsonville, GA on April 21, 1940, she had lived in Florida for many years before moving to Pierce County in 1996. Ms. Tolbert had worked at fruit plants as well as seafood factories in Florida prior to going to work at Lowell Kinard Farms in Plant City where she had been a farm hand. She enjoyed doing word searches, crafts, and playing card games, especially Uno. She was of the Pentecostal faith.
She was a daughter of the late Richard Joseph & Effie Marie Pate Hicks. She was also preceded in death by a son & daughter-in-law, Jimmy & Lisa Still; a son-in-law, John “J.C.” English; three sisters, Lena Grant, Inez Jurnigan, and Viola Benner; and all four of her brothers, Clifton Hicks, John Hicks, Ernest “Jabo” Hicks, and Joe Hicks.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna English of Plant City, FL; three sons, Joe (Ann) Still of Blackshear, Lee Tolbert (Tammy) of Blackshear, and Ricky (Gina) Tolbert of Valdosta; a sister, Pearl Bryant of Jesup; 17 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Tuesday morning, September 5, 2023, from 11 am until 12 pm.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
